Jeni & Eric 2012

My lovely roommate Jeni married Eric this past September. It was a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the base of Fernie Alpine Resort, where they both work & play.
Jeni wanted purple and earthy, here is what we came up. A bouquet of freesia, lisianthis, hypericum, alstromeria, eryngium, lotus pods, surrounded by a collar of curly willow.
Jeni had a piece of her family tartan which we used for the handle. I loved this, we usually use silk, lace, etc. but this just finished off the rustic mountain look so nicely, plus it was a nod to her heritage.

Congratulations Jeni & Eric!

Beauty in the land of Blog: FRESH Photography

This morning I was doing one of my favorite things... wandering through the land of blogs (floral and photography blogs to be more specific). I love the creativity that is out there, and I especially love it when you find someone from your neck of the woods, doing amazing work! (I also love that I can excuse it as "research" for work!) Well today I stumbled across the FRESH Photography blog and kinda got real excited- so creative! I was pouring through it post by post and stumbled across a Fernie wedding she had done this summer- it was one of mine and one I was wishing I had better images of. Well here they are- LOvE & LoVE!!

And I'll leave you with a photo, because really what is a posting with out a picture?! This one was donated as a door prize for a local fundraiser last month. Kinda nice to see something not red and green!!

Winter Wedding- Kathryn & Jesse

Love is the compass of life. - Peckeroy

Kathryn & Jesse, both Fernie residents and RCMP officers, had a beautiful winter wedding this past weekend and 6:8 Photography captured it beautifully!
When I met with Kathryn she was so relaxed and trusting- telling me she wanted all white and left the rest to me- love it!
As always I tried to bring in differing textures to bring visual interested to a monochromatic piece. White Cymbidium Orchids, White Hydrangea, and white tulips were surrounded by Pitt, Cedar, and varigated grass loops (probably my favorite part!). The handle was finished with navy blue ribbon (to compliment his Red coat) and white pearl pins.

I love the shared moment captured in this shot!

Congratulations Kathryn   & Jesse! Wishing you a lifetime of love & happiness!

"True love begins in heaven's bower,
Unfolds on earth a perfect flower".   -ARDELIA COTTON BARTON

Fernie Wedding: Carmen & Brock

Love is the greatest refreshment in life.
-Pablo Picasso

I've been eagerly anticipating this week's wedding as it was my first opportunity to work with Picasso Calla Lilies.  Carmen was a dream to work with (and not just because we have the same name!) she was a bride who knew what she wanted and yet was open to suggestions. She was gracious and flexible with changes made, and planned a beautiful and intimate wedding.

Picasso Callas, Purple Dendrobium Orchids, Pittisporum, "something blue" satin handle

 Congrats Carmen & Brock!!

Take Two: Fernie Photo Shoot

This week I had a photo shoot with Fernie born & raised photographer Robin Hellewell (who also happens to be my cousin). We convinced a couple of photogenic friends to  play models for us. I came up with three fall designs ideas for a casual wedding in the Elk Valley. Enjoy!

Thanks to Jesse Aarsen & Faye Neufeld for being good sports!

Fernie Wedding: Breanna

The red rose whispers of passion,
And the white rose breathes of love;
O, the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove.
-  John Boyle O’Reilly

Breanna decided on the classic dozen red rose bouquet for herself, and we updated it with lilly grass loops and the clean look of italian ruscus. For her bridesmaids she wanted white to contrast with the black dresses, and wanted it to have the same elegant feel. Each girl carried 5 white roses set into a white hydrangea, the white was broken up by scattered lilly grass loops.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend! I'm counting down the hours till I can get out in the sun!

French Country : Christa's Wedding

"There's a few things I've learned in life: always throw salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for good luck, and fall in love whenever you can"
— William Shakespeare

For the past several days my shop has been taken over by the soothing scent of Lavender. Christa brought buckets of lavender grown in her families garden on the coast, including a bit of white lavender from her grandmothers garden for good luck!

The two bridesmaids carried smaller variations of the brides bouquet, while the grooms-woman carried a bouquet of lavender and pittsorium.

Congrats Christa & Rider!!
