Busy, busy!

This week is a busy one! There will be more details about it to come this weekend. But for now here are a few that went out this week...
I love the kale!

We got some 'pig face' (AKA 'fox face) in this week (the yellow, lemon-like things)!
For a tea-party Birthday!

Ok, here is one photo of what we are working on this week... we have about six time this many tulips in our cooler right now, along with 150 hydrangea and lots more! Can't wait to share it all with you!!

~*~ Newness ~*~

Despite the fact that it was snowing/blowing for most of the day, it kinda felt like spring in the shop. Lots of "new". Our big Danica order came in today with this year's new designs and I'm really liking them- apparently I'm not the only one, because I sold a few pieces before I could even get them on the shelf!
Another "new" is that we have the original painting finally up and for sale! We got the prints in the shop last week but were just waiting on the frame to hang it. I have to say it kinda feels too nice for the shop- but I'm not complaining : )

Fernie is a town with a lot of civic pride. Actually I think it is safe to say, that I have never seen a community more proud of who they are than Fernie. Not in a "you suck, we're awesome" kind of way but just hmmmm.... I'm going to say healthy self-confidence : ) That being said I was reminded of this today as several people commented on this painting. They were so proud that a Fernie-born-and-raised was producing such amazing work, and that it showcased a scene that Fernie loves to promote. For those of you who have never been to Fernie (you should come!) this is 2nd Ave. (AKA: Main Street) the shopping centre of town which is composed of character-filled brick buildings. In the background is the ski hill. The hill is what brings people here, and the town is why people stay.

And because this is a flower blog.... here are a couple that went to the same girl for her 30th Birthday!

Glass half full of warm fuzzies?

I'm not sure if I'm in denial or just going for the glass is half full approach... This is what it looks like outside:

And this week is COLD, some reports are saying we could hit a record low of -42C (about -44F). Despite the fact that it is too cold to... well do anything; I've been trying to think warm thoughts (while sitting on my portable heater). There are plenty of Albertans who came here to ski, but are making their way downtown to find a warmer past time for their holiday- shopping. I decided to use lying as a marketing tactic (white lies!).

This is what I put in my window- it was meant as an encouraging statement, but now I'm wondering if maybe it's more of a mocking statement. I watch people bundled up and bending into the wind, stopping to read my little note. Does it give them hope and some warm fuzzies? or make them want to curb-stomp my sign... I choose to believe the warm fuzzy one.

We recently got our INDABA spring order in (which include the chalkboard-pots from the previous pic!) All this new merchandise has given us a chance to rearrange the front a bit. I've notice that this shelf in particular has been getting a lot of attention today. Not sure if it is all the bright colours, or that everyone has warm bath/showers on their minds... and I'm sure the all the amazing smells don't hurt either!

And last but not least here are a couple warm & tropical arrangements! (Sarah made these ones!)

We're going to the movies! ! No duh!

The big event in Fernie this weekend is the premiere for the film Hot Tub Time Machine.  HTTM was filmed in Fernie, so a lot of the locals will be in it as extras. As you may have guessed it is about a group of friends that get into a hot tub which .... is  a time machine! A majority of the film is set in the 1980's, and I tried to keep this in mind as I designed an arrangement for the foyer of the theatre. (Though I did my best to stay away from carnations and babies breath!)

I decided to go with bright colours as they remind me of my hot pink ski jacket and my brother's fluorescent green ski suit with matching head band...

So I guess it's the eighties but edited and updated; I opted to keep the lines modern and clean.

It's difficult to see in the picture but I weighted the vase with rocks and then swirled hot pink, spring green & electric blue wire up the inside of the "tubular" vase to give it a bit more of that 80's feel. It's totally rad!

For the Calla it.... anyone?!? (tough crowd, tough crowd)

Well this week I ordered in the purple/chocolate callas to show a bride. I have to admit they've never been my favorite flower I lean more towards bright and funky (more like the pincushion protea that I paired with them). Despite that I may be coming around; this afternoon has been a bit of a "calla re-appreciation" time for me.

Back to the original reason I brought them in... I had a bride looking for nice but economical center pieces. So we came up with a smaller version of the one below (though in a large cylinder vase).
I like how the everything becomes magnified under the water. And the contrast of the traditional calla and the wild willow works for me.
