Pantone's Color of the Year 2016

Every year Pantone releases their "Color of the Year" and this year, for the first time they have chosen two instead of just one. For 2016 it is Rose Quartz and Serenity, shades of pale pink and baby blue.

Pantone makes this an annual event that is closely followed by the design and fashion industry, home decor, and our beloved wedding industry. Pantone wanted to bring back pastels and we are not complaining, you've got to love pastels if you're a florist!

How does this relate to your 2016 wedding you ask? Rose Quartz & Serenity are a great pairing to warm up your chosen wedding colors and they look beautiful together in bouquets, centerpieces and any other floral elements. We have already seen more use of light blues in wedding bouquets and throughout the wedding theme of some of our brides. Most have used them as an accent color to soft yellow, lavender and white.

We are loving the addition of the Rose Quartz to last years Pantone color Marsala as well as tones of navy, gold and white. It is the perfect hue to add a feminine touch or to give your color scheme a bit of romance. The Serenity can be paired with lavender, peach, ivory and silver, adding that cool tone but still keeping with a pastel color palette for the bride that leans towards a softer look.

Rose Quartz  and Serenity can be transitioned throughout your wedding adding pastel emphasis to your table settings, signage and other design aspects of your day. We have been seeing the Rose Quartz as a choice for bridesmaid dresses as well as the ribbon handles of some of our 2016 brides. And that serenity blue is really making a come-back.

Here is a little inspiration, enjoy!

Brave Brides & True Friends

Once again I was looking through my photos to see if I had missed blogging any of them. Well I found a few! I realized I've never posted the pictures of weddings I did before I owned The Green Petal.

Before opening my shop I worked for a shop in Cranbrook ( MJ's Floral). I learned a lot and requested friday/saturday shifts because I wanted to gain experience with wedding design. After a few years doing this I received a call from my dear friend Lisa, asking me if I would be willing to do the flowers for her wedding. I was super excited and a bit scared but very quickly agreed to do them! Well 2008/2009 were a busy couple of years, as many of my friends decided to get married. I was honored that they trusted me enough to do the flowers, let alone give me as much freedom as they did! I owe a lot to these girls, it was during these weddings I learned the "other half" of wedding work,  ORGANIZATION! Often working alone (though sometimes aided by willing friends), and having up to 6 bridesmaids and 18 button holes I definitely honed my time management skills! I also discovered the importance of flexibility in design- especially when it comes to weddings (hmmm... I think I will do a whole separate blog on that!).

In the end I really just wanted to say thanks to these lovely ladies for trusting me with their important day & encouraging me in following my passion! Love you!
