Wedding Trends of 2016

As florists we like to keep up on popular decor blogs, follow our favorite flower ladies on Instagram and absorb as much inspiration as we can from Pinterest. Now that we've got the summer wedding season coming up we have taken note of some of the Wedding Trends of 2016.

Dramatic Ceremony Florals
This year has come with many requests for high impact floral arches, flower walls and statement arrangements at the ceremony. Brides have been choosing a more organic style, lush greenery with lots of texture.

Choosing In-season & Local
Brides are drawn to natural and organically inspired floral arrangements this year. We have had many requests for in-season and local flowers, most of our ladies are looking for that "farm to table" style and we LOVE it. Most of our flowers are shipped from the coast and we try to source as many BC grown blooms as possible. As far as locally sourced flowers, we've been having a bit of trouble on that front, someone open up a flower farm already!

Family Style reception set-up
We're talking long tables, that cozy shoulder to shoulder feel where you can mix and mingle with your guests and have great conversations all night long. We love the idea of keeping things intimate when it comes to your reception decor, try low compact centerpieces or greenery garlands and top that off with some warm lighting once the sun goes down.

Goodbye Neutrals, hello Color
Brides are in favor of vibrant color combinations this year. Choosing bursts of blue, yellow or deep purple and incorporating them into botanical floral designs. The past few years we have had a lot of blush, white, pastel blues and other muted tones whereas this year, brides are choosing to follow their color dreams and step outside the box!

Metallic Palettes
It's all about glitz and glitter this year, more brides are choosing to go with brass, gold or silver accents throughout their event. Whether its a gold ribbon to accent their bouquets, metallic centerpiece vessels or adding a bit of shimmer to their invitations and menus, brides are on metallic this year. Don't be afraid to mix and match by adding a bit of gold here, a bit of pewter there or even some rose gold accents to your table settings. Metallic is on trend this year, there's no doubt about it.

Jeni & Eric 2012

My lovely roommate Jeni married Eric this past September. It was a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the base of Fernie Alpine Resort, where they both work & play.
Jeni wanted purple and earthy, here is what we came up. A bouquet of freesia, lisianthis, hypericum, alstromeria, eryngium, lotus pods, surrounded by a collar of curly willow.
Jeni had a piece of her family tartan which we used for the handle. I loved this, we usually use silk, lace, etc. but this just finished off the rustic mountain look so nicely, plus it was a nod to her heritage.

Congratulations Jeni & Eric!

Tarah & Thomas July 2012

"Love is friendship set on fire." -Jeremy Taylor

Matt Kuhn sent me a few shots from Tarah & Thomas' wedding July 2012.  Thomas and Tarah are both active people who love to be outdoors and to spend time with the people they love. This intimate lakeside ceremony was so them and despite having to make some location changes due to flooding, it was a picture perfect scene.

I had such a great time being a part of this wedding! All the best you two!

Little Christmas Family

Well this week has been crazy busy, but I just quickly wanted to share one of my favorite orders this Christmas season!
I was asked to create 4 medium sized and one "massive" Christmas arrangement. I decided I wanted them to coordinate but also be unique. I used a mercury glass hurricane for the four smaller and a larger colored hurricane vase for the massive. Here we go...

I'm expecting the next couple of days to be busy, busy, busy!  But I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a Merry Christmas!  I'm off to the land of sun and sand for a couple weeks at the beginning of January and then we will be an exhibitor at The Wedding Fair  in Calgary, AB on January 22nd. So if any of you Calgary Brides are interested in getting married in the Beautiful Town of Fernie come check us out, or even just stop by to say hi! I'll be sure to take lots of pictures at the show (and at the beach!). Merry Christmas & see you in the New Year!

Sunny Succulents

A heart that loves is always young. - Greek Proverb

Fall is in the Valley and I'm afraid it just may be here to stay... the upside to that is the warmth of my laptop is a lot more appealing, and I'll be focusing on the blog again : )  I was just browsing through my pictures and I realized how many weddings I have to show you- lots!  So lets get started, this wedding was not a big one, but it's definitely one of my favourites that I've done to date, it's a little bit o' sunshine. It has a lot of things I love in a bouquet: yellow, succulents, & LOTS of texture!

Workbench picture.

Football mums, freesia, crespedia, solidago, and succulents. Yep, yep.

Cute, cute, cute.

Dozen white roses, with a twist!

Hello Again!  I just got back from my first "real" vacation since I opened the shop. Three glorious days of climbing, camping, deep water soloing, & roller coasters! I have a busy week ahead of me with four weddings this weekend, but I wanted to take a minute to stop in and say hi as well as post a small wedding we did this past week!

I love the challenge of taking a dozen roses and making them really unique. This bride was having a black and white wedding. She asked for a white bouquet and was open to black accents- the rest she left up to me! I leiu of greenery I used black satin ribbon loops and softened the whole look with black ostrich feathers. I hope she (and you) enjoyed the final look as much as I did!

Thanks to Morgan for the pictures!

Shane loves Amy: July 2nd, 2011

Love is a game that two can play and both win.

Amy decided to go with the classic cascade style bouquet. Her bridesmaid's dresses were a hot magenta with silver details. We brought those colors in with the pink gerberas and silver brunia berries. Amy's bouquet also included pink waxflower and cream roses with hot pink edges, finished off with italian ruscus and a few lily grass loops.

Finally here are a couple of the professional shots from 6:8 Photography.
Congratulations Shane & Amy!

Calla & Freesia Wedding: Cindy

I love you not because of who you are,
but because of who I am when I am with you.
~ Roy Croft

This was the second wedding this past weekend. Cindy's bouquet was solid Red Mini Callas with a collar of lily grass loops. Simply Stunning.

She wanted a bit of contrast for the bridesmaids, so they each carried a posy of Red mini callas with white freesia scattered throughout.

English Garden Wedding: Barbara

Love is the greatest refreshment in life.  ~Pablo Picasso

Well this week was a very busy one with four weddings and two graduations. With the help of some great staff and friends (and my mom!), I made it through and I'm excited to share the wedding pictures. Barbara was a very hands on bride and helped to pick each flower included in her wedding as well as the lace for her handle (which I LOVED!)

The brides sister carried a posy of Romantic Antike Roses, tied with off-white satin.

The Bride's bouquet consisted of pink peonies, soft pink hydrangea, Romantic Antike Garden Roses, white cymbidium orchids, and pink tipped tulips- so soft and pretty! This was all tied together with off-white satin, covered in lace.

Each of the tables had two white cubes, two bud vases, and two silver dishes. They were all filled with a mix of : white hydrangea, soft pink hydrangea, Romantic Antike Garden Roses, White O'Hara Garden Roses, Lavender Freesia, Lavender Stock, Pink tipped tulips, white cymbidium orchids, pink peonies, and dusty miller.
