~*~ Newness ~*~

Despite the fact that it was snowing/blowing for most of the day, it kinda felt like spring in the shop. Lots of "new". Our big Danica order came in today with this year's new designs and I'm really liking them- apparently I'm not the only one, because I sold a few pieces before I could even get them on the shelf!
Another "new" is that we have the original painting finally up and for sale! We got the prints in the shop last week but were just waiting on the frame to hang it. I have to say it kinda feels too nice for the shop- but I'm not complaining : )

Fernie is a town with a lot of civic pride. Actually I think it is safe to say, that I have never seen a community more proud of who they are than Fernie. Not in a "you suck, we're awesome" kind of way but just hmmmm.... I'm going to say healthy self-confidence : ) That being said I was reminded of this today as several people commented on this painting. They were so proud that a Fernie-born-and-raised was producing such amazing work, and that it showcased a scene that Fernie loves to promote. For those of you who have never been to Fernie (you should come!) this is 2nd Ave. (AKA: Main Street) the shopping centre of town which is composed of character-filled brick buildings. In the background is the ski hill. The hill is what brings people here, and the town is why people stay.

And because this is a flower blog.... here are a couple that went to the same girl for her 30th Birthday!

The Crunchy Ryckman Bouquet!

Micheline of Ryckman Photography has been blogging a series on different colour palettes. One of our bouquets is featured in her Garden Pallette blog today- check out the blog- here!

With the echinacea, cymbidium orchids, mokara orchids,  lilies, berries, and ti leaves, and twigs; my favourite thing about this one is texture- it's so crunchy! But the deep pink/purple/reds combo meld together so well, it manages to keep a soft romantic feel.

*~*Madly Joyful *~*

People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us.  ~Iris Murdoch, A Fairly Honourable Defeat

I like that quote, it definitely describes how I feel about working with flowers. At least once a week a client comments on what a fun job I have and how lucky I am. I have to agree-  I feel pretty blessed that I get to spend most of my time surrounded by such beautiful and cheery flowers. To top it all off I get to play with them and be creative! And flowers always bring joy, from birthdays and anniversaries, to thank-you and just-because. Even in sad events such as illness and funerals, flowers still bring a little bit of cheer.  Here is a bit of the joy & cheer going out from The Green Petal lately!
To Her from Him: Hydrangea, White roses, Green dendrobium orchids, magnolia leaves,  Fernie Branches : ),

In Memory of a Mom & Wife: Red roses, green hydrangea, heather, snapdragons, red pheasant feathers.

Winter Wedding- Kathryn & Jesse

Love is the compass of life. - Peckeroy

Kathryn & Jesse, both Fernie residents and RCMP officers, had a beautiful winter wedding this past weekend and 6:8 Photography captured it beautifully!
When I met with Kathryn she was so relaxed and trusting- telling me she wanted all white and left the rest to me- love it!
As always I tried to bring in differing textures to bring visual interested to a monochromatic piece. White Cymbidium Orchids, White Hydrangea, and white tulips were surrounded by Pitt, Cedar, and varigated grass loops (probably my favorite part!). The handle was finished with navy blue ribbon (to compliment his Red coat) and white pearl pins.

I love the shared moment captured in this shot!

Congratulations Kathryn   & Jesse! Wishing you a lifetime of love & happiness!
